Birthday Present

For my recent birthday, two of my dear friends bought me a new quilting project/challenge. They bought me a kit to make this quilt:
Isn't it beautiful?! It is a table runner - but I think that once it is done I will probably be more inclined to use it as a wall hanging rather then a table runner. I wouldn't want it to get dirty. The challenge comes from the fact that this quilt is all applique! Which means the the flowers are all hand-sewn onto the background fabric with an invisible stitch - something that I have never done before. I am looking forward to learning this new technique. The store they bought the kit from offers lessons on how to make this exact quilt by the lady who did the design. I think I'm going to sign up for a few lessons before I get started. Here are some pictures of the fabric that were included in the kit:
First the background and borders:

And here are the colors that will be used to make up the stems/leaves and flowers:

I might add a few more colors from my own collection of fabric to give the flowers more variety. I have already washed and pressed the fabric so I'm ready to start cutting the pieces out. But I have the baby quilt to finish for my sister - only two more months till the baby is here! And I want to take some lessons and practice the applique technique before I start.

  • those colours are beautiful. I love it. That will be gorgeous when it is done. What is the name of the lady that designed it. I know one way of doing invisible applica and I have a book that i learned how to do it from. It might be good to take a lesson and you can get some tips to help. I bet you can't wait to get started.
